The symbolic language of the cultural and religious elements used during Holy Week, Ayacucho

Abstract

The present investigation is a brief outline, approached from the ethnographic design and the qualitative investigation during the religious festivals of Holy Week. The objective was to understand the cultural and religious symbolism, and to investigate the reason for the use of certain cultural elements in the construction of religious platforms, from the perception and vision of the craftsman. The qualitative research methodology and ethnographic design were used, which allowed describing, understanding and analyzing testimonies and detailed and meticulous information. To carry out the study, instruments such as direct observation (a specific guide, which focused on the development and preparation of ornaments, assembly and processions of the anda) and semi-structured interviews were used; These actions were carried out both in the craftsman's workshop and in the place where the throne was assembled. The following findings were reached: Holy Week in Ayacucho represents a living historical legacy, where the cultural and religious elements used manage to express and communicate the cultural identity, tradition and regional history of this town. During this exhibition, an atmosphere of fervor and religious devotion is evident on the part of the devotees, who play a fundamental role in this religious context.
